In today’s fast-paced world, waiting can feel like an inconvenience, if not a complete waste of time. We live in a society where everything is instant: instant messaging, fast food, on-demand streaming, and next-day delivery. Yet, as followers of God, we often find ourselves in seasons where He calls us to wait—whether it's waiting for an answer to prayer, the fulfillment of a promise, or guidance for a decision. But what does it mean to wait on God, and why is it such an essential part of our spiritual journey?
What Does It Mean to Wait on God?
Waiting on God means more than just sitting passively or hoping for things to change. It’s an active posture of trust, dependence, and expectation that God will act according to His perfect timing and will. When we wait on God, we acknowledge His sovereignty and surrender our own timelines and desires to Him.
